Living in Kona Hawaii is like moving to Heaven before I really get there. It is the best weather of all the islands, the biggest Island (4000 square miles) and endless things to do. Me, I love to swim with the BIG things of the ocean. The bigger the better! RSS my blog and check out all the amazing photos of whales, whale sharks, turtles, dolphins, fish, and even Great Whites, updated several times a week! I hope you enjoy watching as much as I love showing those photos and sharing the experiences of the Pacific.
When I am not in the ocean I own a great property management/Kona Vacation Rental/real estate/ and construction management company. http://www.konatraveler.com and http://www.ccimhawaii.com.
THE SKIES ARE CLEAR!! Madame Pele' (Kilauea) has collapsed one of her most disruptive and bothersome vents, and our VOG has been minimal. The horizons are blue, and mountains’ are clear and the water is blue blue. Kīlauea is the youngest and southeastern most volcano on the Big Island of Hawai`i. Topographically Kīlauea appears as only a bulge on the southeastern flank of Mauna Loa, and so for many years Kīlauea was thought to be a mere satellite of its giant neighbor, not a separate volcano. However, research over the past few decades shows clearly that Kīlauea has its own magma-plumbing system, extending to the surface from more than 60 km deep in the earth. Kīlauea is the home of Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess. Hawaiian chants and oral traditions tell in veiled form of many eruptions fomented by an angry Pele before the first European, the missionary Rev. William Ellis, saw the summit in 1823. The caldera was the site of nearly continuous activity during the 19th century and the early part of this century. Since 1952 there have been 34 eruptions, and since January 1983 eruptive activity has been continuous along the east rift zone. All told, Kīlauea ranks among the world's most active volcanoes and may even top the list.

From Volcano’s to the sea….
Saturday we decided to swim north of the pier. That was a different adventure. There were so many crown of thorns we could not kill them all. We did our part though. Lots of coral reefs and big swells hitting us head on. Lots of surface currents to contend with too.
Nothing big to see unfortunately, I was hoping for a hammerhead, as that area drops down to several hundred feet rapidly. That’s the area the shark like to roam. The fish were beautiful and the corals reefs were singing with life. If you listen you can actually hear the life on the reef. It is a very distinctive crackling sound.
This is a wonderful time to visit the islands. I just saw a price today for $349 from Kona to Oakland, perhaps the same reverse? Check out the airfares at KAYAK.com. My favorite. You can set up a search for yourself and you are notified by email at the intervals you wish when new fares hit. Vacation rentals I would imagine on all the islands are fairly "negotiable" anywhere right now. Let’s make a deal!
This week is also the HIBT in Kona, so it is an exciting bustling time in our little village.
The Hawaiian Island Billfish Tournament is a fun time because anglers from around the world will gather for five action packed days of tough competitive fishing. As the reel screams aboard some of Kona’s finest charter boats, will you be ready to take on a Pacific blue marlin? To mark the golden anniversary, HIBT is opening up tournament registration to 50 teams. Anglers and teams from around the world are invited to apply early as tournament participation is expected to reach capacity. Teams will gather from the four corners, including Australia, Bahamas, Japan, Bermuda, Portugal, Uk, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, South Africa and throughout the US including California, Florida, Hawaii and North Carolina, lured to sport fishing's famous Kona Coast in search of a prized Pacific blue marlin and their chance of capturing the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament's prestigious Governor's trophy! Kona's fishing reputation was built 50 years ago when Peter S. Fithian founded the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament (HIBT). Since then, HIBT has earned its iconic status in big-game fishing tournaments and is known as the grandfather of all big game fishing tournaments. This invitational tournament is built upon honor, prestige, and strict adherence to International Game Fish Association rules for world records.
Why is the Kona Coast so famous in elite fishing circles? These fishing grounds boast warm, deep waters, sunny skies, Aloha Spirit, and the ability to hook up a marlin just five minutes after the tournament starts!"
So much to do here, so little time……
